I thought the first book in the series would be hard to beat but this one comes darn close. This is a Beauty and the Beast meets Tarzan and Jane historical and I loved every minute of it.Felicity Bennett is engaged to marry a gambling swindler against her will, her only way out is to pay him. So she accepts a tutoring position for the impressive Duc and Duchesse de Valere. Felicity expects to be a governess to a small boy named Armand, but she finds out that Armand is a very handsome, if untamed, grown man. Armand had been imprisoned since childhood during the French Revolution. While in prison, he lost all human contact, even losing his ability/desire to speak and touch others. Will Felicity be able to help him communicate in society and overcome his past, and can Armand help her overcome hers?Tags : The Making of a Gentleman (Sons of the Revolution) [Shana Galen] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Twelve years in prison has stripped him of his humanity...Saving him is her only chance to escape a terrible fate Armand,Shana Galen,The Making of a Gentleman (Sons of the Revolution),Sourcebooks Casablanca,1402238665,Ex-convicts;France;Fiction.,Secrecy;Fiction.,Tutors and tutoring;Fiction.,American Historical Fiction,American Light Romantic Fiction,Ex-convicts,FICTION Romance Historical General,FICTION Romance Historical Regency,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,FictionRomance - Historical - Regency,France,Historical romance,Romance - Historical - General,Romance - Historical - Regency,Romance: Regency,Secrecy,Tutors and tutoring

I didn't think Galen could top the first book in the series, The Making of a Duchess, but she did. I frequently don't like second books as much as first books in a series, but I absolutely loved this one. As much as I liked Julien and Sarah, I found it easy to transition to Armand's story.
There were some weaknesses in the subplots (especially the blackmailing fiancé), but for me, the characters carried this story. I completely identified with Felicity, especially her nervousness at starting her new job. What I loved most, though, were the glimpses into Armand's thoughts, which showed why it was so difficult for him to speak and made that part of the story believable.
I also loved the humor in this story. There were so many places that made me laugh. This was a Beauty and the Beast type story with a very likable hero.
This book is another one of my instant favorites! I loved the first book in the series, The Making of a Duchess, so I immediately downloaded the second book without even trying a sample. Risky, yes, but Making of a Gentlemen lived up to my expectations. Armand is one of the most intriguing heros I have encountered in a long time, and is truly the star of the book. A male star is extremely difficult to find, so that was definitely one of the things about this book that I liked best. Felicity is saved from being the typical "insipid miss" governess because Galen makes a point to characterize her with a sense of humor and kindness, tempered by practicality - she comes across as a likeable person, and the story is so well-written that you are rooting for the couple the whole way.
If you are new to Shana Galen, and you enjoy storylines that include atypical characters for a Regency romance, then you can't go wrong with this book as your first experience. However, to truly appreciate the overall storyline, start with the first book in this series, The Making of a Duchess, and then read this book.
As I read this one I thought, I can't even imagine being caught up in the purging of the Aristocrats during the French Uprising of the classes. I tried to put myself in the place of Armand an 8 year old young Lord who is not only caught up but nearly killed. Who watched as his father was taken and torn from his brothers, Julien and twin Bastian and his mother and left to fend for himself. Forced to watch as his father was tried and then guillotined.
Then betrayed by his cohort/friends and imprisoned for years and forgotten.
This is a wonderful period romance and Armand and the addition of his Tutor/love interest Felicity is a wonderful blend of exactly what I imagine it would have been like to endure and survive such an ordeal. A kind of caveman mute who used silence to survive and then had to be taught to live again.
I believe you will absolutely love this story.
BUY, READ, IMAGINE AND DREAM this tale with the author. You will be taken to another time and life.
What I love most about Shana Galen's work is that from the moment you begin her books you are swept away into another world and when you read the last page you feel not only joy because of her endings but sorrow because it has ended. The sequel to "The Rogue Pirates Bride" could almost have acted as the prequel instead. In this book we follow the story of Armand Harcourt, the comte de Valere who was separated from his family at the age of eleven when the peasants stormed his family home in France during the revolution. After spending nearly twelve years locked away in a prison he has finally been reunited with his brother Julien and his mother. Living now in London, his mind is shut off in a world he created to survive the years of torture and isolation. His sister-in-law Sarah insists they hire a tutor since none of the efforts the family has made has shown any progress.
Felicity Bennett is alone in the world. Her father is dead and left her penniless. To make matters worse he has betrothed her to a man who only wants to blackmail her for the money he needs to pay off his depts. Through connections with her aunt Felicity is given the position of Armand's tutor. Expecting her charge to be a small child not the virile man with intensely blue eyes that seem to read into the depths of her soul Felicity has no choice but to accept the position.
Only through her music can she reach into Armand's nightmares and attempt to bring him back to his family. From the moment he hears her play to their first touch the two are drawn to each other. She must teach him to speak again while fighting off the attraction she feels. Armand struggles with the new sensation he feels for her, the only one who is able to touch him without causing him pain. As the two are drawn into a deeper relationship the class lines are drawn forbidding Felicity to dare cross over into his world. Armand however in his simple ways similar to a child does not understand the rules of society and his placement in their world. His only need is Felicity and his need to make her his.
You will fall in love with Armand and the struggle he faces to tear down the barriers in his mind. You will cheer for Felicity as she slowly brings Armand out of his shell and into society. You will face the challenges each face in the battle to protect the other. Well written, quick read and full of characters you will remember long after the last page has been turned. Well done Ms. Galen.
