Been wanting to read this book for a long time. I read a ton of her stuff when I was a kid. The Pern series were some of my all-time favorite Sci-Fi books. This book is classic McCaffrey. Well developed characters and fun and interesting plot. Very dynamic story line. Unfortunately the story fizzled out about halfway through the book. It went from having a fair amount of interesting action to very boring dialogues and explanations of stuff that were not really important in the larger scheme of the story. I probably wont read the rest of the books in the series.

Sassinak Planet Pirates Vol 1 v 1 Anne McCaffrey Elizabeth Moon 9780671698638 Books Reviews
You can pretty much pick out the parts written by Elizabeth Moon which is why I read it. Plot could have been strong but doesn't really leave me wanting more. Stick with Ms Moon's own stuff for excellent Military SciFi and some of the best fantasy ever written. Anne McCaffery of course has her own huge fan base.
Like this author and this set of characters, science fiction, fun adventure story
I like both authors' work, but this time it seemed disjointed. It's almost as if some of the book was written without consulting the previous paragraph to make sure a scene was set. There were some really good parts and I finished the read, but was disappointed. Not sure what happened as both have collaborated well before.
While there's a bit of redundancy if you've read the other books in the series, "Dinosaur Planet", "Dinosaur Planet Survivors" , and "Death of Sleep", this book fits right in. Sassinak is Lunzie's great great granddaughter, but is younger because Lunzie had been in several cold sleep situations, which stops aging. Sassinak is kick ass and overcomes many odds . I'll stop here, so no plot spoiler.
This book sort of sells itself as a 'girl escapes from slavery' tale, but that part's over in short order. We then rocket through Sassinak's life, past a rotating cast of characters with mostly bit parts. I would have really liked this book if it slowed down a bit, but I'm left not so much wanting more and wondering what happened. The central character is good and a couple of the battle scenes are interesting, but it isn't backed up by enough of a cohesive story. It's sort of like if you condensed all of the Horatio Hornblower books into a single 250 page novel.
Good military sci-fi as you'd expect with Elizabeth Moon's influence. Follow Sassinak as she progresses from slave to commander of a cruiser chasing planet pirates. Good action, great characterization in McCaffrey's true style. My favourite part was that it links up with one of McCaffrey's earlier books. Great read.
I absolutely love the Planet Pirates series - including the following 2 co-written with Elizabeth Moon and Jody Lynn Nye. Who doesn't love an ethical, strong woman in a position of power? She was made a slave, then her life changed and... Yay for Captain Sassinak!
Well written, fast paced, good character development, great story line. Space Opera at it's best - good science makes it plausible for what could be in the future.
